We had no intention of adopting a dog, but on an evening walk we couldn’t resist as we saw poor Mardi in a Petsmart parking lot in a cage just staring into our souls. She had made the trek along with 99 other dogs in an 18 wheeler from Louisiana that evening and she was exhausted, but in good spirits. The rescue that brought her up was Boudreux’s Animal Rescue Krewe that is a no kill shelter for local Louisiana dogs.
Every year the group she was with made the voyage to St. Catharines, Ontario as the adoption rate was very successful. The group told us Mardi was found in Colfax, Louisiana, weighing only 15 lbs. To put this in perspective, she is now 50 lbs. Needless to say she was skin and bones, but still full of love. She hopped into their truck and they took her in. Ever since the day we brought her home she’s made our lives all that more rich with her smiling face, ever wagging tail, and intense curiosity. We couldn’t imagine our lives without her.
